A few weeks ago I wrote about the synchronicity associated with eating at Sekiya's. In the case of The Old Saimin House, the concept of serendipity seems appropriate.
The Old Saimin House is a small saimin shop located at 1311 N. King Street. It is tucked away in the cluster of restaurants that include Diner's Drive-In, located between Farrington High School and the Kapalama Post Office. The sign above the restaurant humbly declares "since 1963," but until this week, honestly, I had been unaware that it even existed. My companion, too, had not heard of the restaurant either.
The day we discovered The Old Saimin House, it was a Monday and no saimin was being served. A small restaurant, it is only open 5 days a week, for 40 hours, total. On Sunday and Mondays they are closed. Between Tuesday and Saturday they are open for 8 hours each day, 11 AM to 2 PM for lunch, and then 6 - 11 PM for dinner. Not being so keen on math, I was surprised (but proud of myself) for realizing the shortness of their shops hours, but as a result, I wondered how they could remain in business by operating like that. |
