Story ending for Autumn Story (Gaeul Donghwa)
Joon-suh's family goes to the States after learning that Eun-suh and Shin-ae were mixed
up at the hospital when they were born.
Nine years past and the teenagers are now grown up. Joon-suh becomes engaged to
Yumi and Tae-suhk falls in love with Eun-suh. Tae-suhk is Joon-suh's good friend.
Joon-suh and Eun-suh eventually meet again and fall in love. Their love is complicated
by the fact that they were raised as brother and sister. Joon-suh's parents are outraged
by the idea that Joon-suh and Eun-suh love each other as man and woman. Yumi and
Tae-suhk also cannot stop loving Joon-suh and Eun-suh, respectively.
Eun-suh later discovers that she has leukemia and gets very sick. She wants to spend
her remaining time with Joon-suh. However, Joon-suh feels obligated to stay with Yumi,
who tried to commit suicide when he threatened to leave her earlier. Eun-suh also feels
obligated to stay with Tae-suhk, who is taking care of her while she is sick.
As Tae-suhk sees Eun-suh get sicker and sicker, he gets more desperate to make her
well. He does not want her to die. He loves her so much that he eventually realizes that
he must put aside his feeling for her so that she can spend the few remaining days she
has left with Joon-suh, her one and only love.
Yumi also realizes that she was wrong to deceive Joon-suh with her lies, and lets
Joon-suh return to Eun-suh.
Joon-suh whisks Eun-suh from her hospital bed so that they can spend precious time
together by themselves. Eun-suh is elated to be with him and her condition improves.
Unfortunately, the improvement is only temporary. Eun-suh starts coughing blood,
which is a sign that her condition is deteriorating. She tries to hide her worsening
condition from Joon-suh, but he discovers her hidden bed sheets splattered with blood
and realizes that their time together is limited. He surprises her one evening with a
wedding dress hanging from a tree full of Christmas lights, and they express their love
for each other. After falling asleep in Joon-suh's arms, Eun-suh dies the next day while
Joon-suh is carrying her (piggy-back style) on the beach and reciting their plans for the
future. Joon-suh is so stunned by her death that he continues walking down the beach
with Eun-suh on his back as if she is still with him.
Joon-suh attends Eun-suh's funeral, but asks Tae-suhk to do the scattering of
Eun-suh's ashes at sea. Shortly thereafter, Joon-suh is crossing the street and a truck
approaching him loses its brakes. The driver honks and Joon-suh has a moment to
jump out of harm's way. However, Joon-suh just stares at the oncoming truck and is
flung into the air upon impact. He dies instantly and once again is reunited with Eun-suh.
