Hye-jin and Chang-joon grew up together at Hope Orphanage. Chang-joon watched over
Hye-jin like a brother but one day he gets adopted by a wealthy couple. Later, the director of the
orphanage, Sun-jae-, leaves with Hye-jin and Joon-hong. Thereafter, mothers who cannot take
care of their children abandon them at Sun-jae's house or noodle shop. The family consists of:
Sun-jae - father who has a noodle shop
Hye-jin - who drops out of college to go to work to help out the family
Joon-hong - teenager who got involved with the wrong crowd but straightens out
Yoon-shik - who helps take care of the younger kids
Da-hee - whose mother comes back for her after a few years
Min-ho - who gets really sick with a failing liver
So-young - baby left at the noodle shop
Chang-joon's parents move abroad but he doesn't want to leave Korea. He lives in an apartment
in the same alley as the family. He helps out with the kids and is part of their family.
Hye-jin falls in love with Kyung-shik, an architect, who encourages her in her field. Mi-ran, who
is Hye-jin's boss, is in love with Kyung-shik too. Mi-ran warns Hye-jin to keep away from
Kyung-shik when she sees that they are getting close. Mi-ran also does terrible things to Hye-jin
like fooling around with the light switches so that the new building lights don't go on and throwing
Hye-jin's model into the river instead of entering it in the contest. Chang-joon loves Hye-jin but
encourages her to go to Kyung-shik because he believes that Kyung-shik can do more for her.
When Kyung-shik finds out what Mir-ran has done to Hye-jin, he doesn't want to have a
relationship with her. Mi-ran fires Hye-jin and seeks Chang-joon's help in breaking up
Kyung-shik and Hye-jin. Chang-joon tells Mi-ran that he is different from her in that he wants to
see the one he loves happy.
The owner of Toyville where Hye-jin and Chang-joon work comes to Korea and he turns out to
be Mi-ran's father. By chance, Hye-jin and Chang-joon meet him on a bus and help him. He in
turn helps Joon-hong get out of trouble. The Chairman finds Chang-joon's sketchbook and offers
him a chance to go to the U.S. with him. Chang-joon does not apply because he goes into the
hospital. Min-ho is gravely ill and needs a liver transplant. Chang-joon gives Min-ho part of his
liver so that Min-ho can live.
When Min-ho was in the hospital, Chang-joon asked Kyung-hee, a bridal designer and friend, to
make a stuffed dog that is in his animation series. Together they make the stuffed dog and give it
to Min-ho. On the day that Min-ho leaves the hospital, he drops the stuffed dog in the parking
lot. Mi-ran finds the stuffed dog and takes it home. She takes it apart to find out how it is made
and then gives the pattern to her father as the first product of Toyville in Korea. When it is
produced, Hye-jin brings it to Chang-joon's attention that it is his dog. Together they go to inform
the Chairman that it is Chang-joon's dog and show him the animation, but the Chairman insists that
it is a coincidence since his daughter is the designer. Mi-ran feels insulted that they are accusing
her. Later Mi-ran's father finds a piece of the dog under her desk and knows that she was lying.
He offers Chang-joon whatever he wants. Chang-joon wants the Chairman to stop the eviction of
the family and to pay the rent for the house until they are on their feet again. All of the family's
money went into Min-ho's operation so they are being evicted and have no place to live.
Kyung-shik wants to take Hye-jin to the U.S. with him to further her studies but leaves by himself
when he realizes that she loves Chang-joon.
The family gets to stay together in the house they love. Hye-jin and Chang-joon are together.
Min-ho is well. Ms. Min, Joon-hong's teacher, will become the family's nanny to help out. The
father tells the family that all this was possible because of gifts from many caring people.
