Korean character names are not known.


Myung-hwa
is a university undergraduate and has a boyfriend (In-soo, a university
undergraduate from a rich family).  Myung-hwa wants to marry In-soo before he enteres
the army.  Upon approval of her father, Myung-hwa marries In-soo.  After they get
married, In-soo's father's business goes bankrupt and In-soo's father is admitted to the
hospital as he cannot take it.  In-soo leaves for the army, but comes back because he has
Hepatitis B.  In-soo's father passes away on the day that In-soo returns home from the
army.  Myung-hwa, In-soo and his mother move in with her father, but In-soo's mother
cannot get used to peasant life since she has lived a wealthy lifestyle all of her life.  In-soo
works in a fast food restaurant and later sells red bean cakes on the roadsie.  Myung-hwa
and In-soo rent a run-down basement apartment.  Myung-hwa gets pregnant and wants to
abort the baby because they cannot afford to feed another mouth, but In-soo asks her to
keep the baby in the end.  Myung-hwa's mother-in-law also becomes more down to earth
and learns how to do housework and cook.

Myung-won is a widow with 2 children, daughter Na Li (7 year old) and son Na Xun (5
years old).  She lives with her children, mother-in-law and her dead husband's sister who
has a son and is separated from her husband.  Myung-won works as a primary school
teacher.  Her mother-in-law helps to look after her 2 kids but is always asking for money.  
Her sister-in-law's son gambles and loses a lot of money.  Her sister-in-law tries to get
Myung-won to mortgage the house to help pay her son's gambling debts.  Myung-won
meets Taekwondo instructor
Lin Cheng Fan working in the same school as her.  Cheng
Fan
(33 years old) is an orphan.  He falls in love with Myung-won and does not mind
taking care of her 2 children and mother-in-law.  After overcoming all obstacles, they get
married.  
Cheng Fan buys Myung-won's house so that her sister-in-law has money to
repay her son's debts.

Myung-il works as a technician.  He is engaged to Jiang En Hui.  En Hui is a primary
school teacher who is a colleague of Myung-won.  Myung-il falls in love with his friend's
girlfriend,
Lin Ying Shan.  Ying Shan is a lounge singer and cohabits with Zhang Hao
(Myung-il's friend).  When Ying Shan falls in love with Myung-il, she cohabits with him
too.  She plots to separate Myung-il and
En Hui.  In order to keep him to herself, she lies
to him that she is going to die of leukemia.  When Myung-il finds out about the lie, he walks
out on her.  
Ying Shan tells him that she likes to role play to make life exciting--so she acts
as if it really happens.  She cannot take the fact the Myung-il walks out on her and tries to
commit suicide.  Myung-il visits her in the hospital but in the end she leaves him without a
word.

Cui Wu Jia (father) is a widower who owns and runs a photo studio.  He has 3 children:  
Myung-won, Myung-il and Myung-won.

Mrs. Park is a good friend of Wu Jia's dead wife and is a successful career woman.  She
treats
Wu Jia's 3 children as if they are her own.  They call her Aunt Zhen.  Wu Jia likes
her but is afraid that he may not bring her happiness.  He marries her in the end.
