During the day, we had no time to shop since we were busy sightseeing. The only time we could fit in our shopping was after we returned to the hotel about 8:00 or 9:00 at night. At home, I don't usually venture out to go shopping at that hour, but here, we needed to maximize the use of every minute we had in Seoul, so off we went. There were underground shopping areas near the subway stops near our Lotte Hotel. Actor Kwon Sang Woo was a spokesperson for The Face Shop so if you bought anything there, you would get a free poster with Kwon Sang Woo and actress Go So Young on it. If you continue walking along the corridor, you will eventually hit the subway.
Namdaemun Marketplace is where we went to buy our drama memorabilia. Namdaemun means the great south gate. It was located within walking distance from our Lotte Hotel. I bought most of my drama souvenirs from the shop shown above. The salesmen spoke Korean, Japanese and English.
There are also vendors in the middle of the streets at Namdaemun. We bought socks with portraits of our favorite stars for 1,000 won (about $1) which was the asking price. We did not do any bargaining. For the hungry and thirsty, there are bars all over the place. It was common to see men in business suits drinking up at the bars. We did not see any drunks that night, but the next night, we saw a drunk walking in the middle of a busy street oblivious to the danger he was in. Sure hope he got home okay.
