"Passion For Korea" Tour
Day 14 (April 18, 2006)
Nami Island
|
We finally made our way back to Seoul yesterday and are staying at the Lotte Hotel
downtown. For today, our tour group will split up. For those like me who are
first-timers to Korea, we are taking a tour to Nami Island. The others will stay back
and go for broke shopping till they drop.
Nami Island is a filming site for the 2002 KBS drama, Winter Sonata (aka Winter
Ballad and Winter Love Story), starring Bae Yong Joon, Choi Ji Woo, Park Yong Ha
and Park Sol Mi. It is where Joon-sang (Bae Yong Joon) and Yujin (Choi Ji Woo)
escaped to when they played hooky in high school.
To get to Nami Island you need to take a ferry.

Nami Island is located on the Han River in the Gwangwon Province. It was named after
General Nami (1441-1468) who was a controversial figure in the Joseon period. His tomb (see
burial mound in left photo above) is located near the ferry landing. Once you disembark from
the ferry, you can walk or bike around the island. For those who have difficulty getting around,
rides on small electric carts are available for a fee.
Koreans go to Nami Island for fun and relaxation. Since many tourist (especially
Japanese) come here to see the Winter Sonata sites, vendors are trying to cash in on the
Korean Wave.
