| The Hahoedong Mask Museum has masks from all over the world. The museum also has a gift shop with a lot of interesting things to buy. The Korean word for mask is tal. |
| Masks were used in ancient times to drive away disease and disaster. Masks generally fall into one of three categories: war masks, demon masks and arts masks. In Korea, most of the masks were used in mask plays and fall into the arts category. Many Korean masks used in plays have comical faces with a movable chin that can mimic various emotions depending on how the performer tilts his or her head. |
