We had a gourmet lunch at the
Dongnam Gourmet Restaurant in
Damyang.  We were served a
doenjang soup with bamboo shoots,
barbeque pork (yummy), rice and 14
side dishes (many of which included
bamboo shoots).  The Korean word
for "side dishes" is banchan
(ban-chan).

At Korean restaurants, the waitress
does not bring you your chopsticks
and spoon.  Instead, there will be a
container (see green box in bottom left
of photo) on the table with utensils,
and you just pass them out yourselves.
Small napkins (the size of a cocktail
napkin or smaller) are also usually
provided.
We got to keep our bamboo-tube rice bowls.  I use
mine to hold my pens and pencils.  Every time I see it
on my desk, I am reminded of the fun we had in
Korea.
We sat on the floor with other customers.
From the photos hung on the wall, it looks
like this restaurant was featured on a SBS
food program.
In many dramas, office workers are shown
drinking coffee purchased from vending
machines.  The vending machine coffee is
very cheap (300 won -- about 30 U.S.
cents) because you get a small cup that is
only about half full.  If you select the "milk
coffee" from the machine, you get coffee with
both milk and sugar which tastes pretty good.
Other choices include coffee with sugar or
black coffee.  Many restaurants offer milk
coffee at the end of a meal.
