                               Uhwagak Pavilion

To enter this Buddhist compound, you must cross the Uhwagak Pavilion, which serves as a pavilion, bridge and gate.  "Uhwagak" means to transform from one stage to another.  There is a stream that runs below the pavilion that adds to the serenity of this setting.  This pavilion has been designated as a Jeolanam-do Tangible Cultural Property No. 59.  The Songgwangsa Temple is located in Suncheon.
                                      Main Hall

The main hall of Songgwagsa Temple contains 3 statutes of Buddhas representing the past Buddha (Dipankara), the present-day Buddha (Sakyamuni) and the future Buddha (Maitreya).  There are also 4 Bodhisattvas representing the Bodhisattvas of wisdom, action, compassion and benevolence.
                        Monks' Quarters

The temple compound also has the Sangha Jewel Monastery.  Here is the gate leading to the living quarters for the monks.  Due to the renown priests and monks trained here, Songgwangsa Temple is the most famous South Korean temple in the world.
