| Our Arrival in Seoul We left Honolulu International Airport at about 11:05 a.m. on April 5, 2006 on Korean Airlines Flight # 52 to Seoul. The flight is very long--over 9 hours. We did not get to Incheon International Airport until about 4:20 p.m. on April 6, 2006 (i.e., we crossed the International Date Line and lost a day flying to Korea). By the time we got our bags, went through customs and walked out to the arrival area, it was about 6:00 p.m. The arrival area was the partitioned area outside of the glass sliding doors where family and friends wait for someone returning from abroad. It was the same site shown in dramas when a star returns from the U.S. For example, we took the same steps that Yong-nam (Kim Seung Woo) took during his "return" from the U.S. in the MBC drama, Mr. Duke. Seoul is the capitol of South Korea. Its population is about 4 million people. Like any other metropolitan city, traffic is a problem. The bus ride from Incheon to Seoul took 1-1/2 hours. The sky was already getting dark. On the ride to our hotel, Lotte Seoul Jamsil, we passed many landmarks. We also saw the Han River (Hangang) which runs through the city. There are many parks next to the river which are used as filming sites for dramas. Upon our arrival at the hotel, we checked in then rushed out to visit Lotte World, an indoor amusement park that was one of the filming sites for the drama, Stairway to Heaven. |
